The Classroom Cooling Pulse

A Year-Long Design Challenge To Cool Your Classroom Before Summer 2027

Measure It, Cool It, Prove It

The Classroom Cooling Pulse is a free 169to1 tool for a year-long classroom cooling design challenge. Over the 2026–27 school year, students audit one classroom, design ways to cool it, test their ideas and report a measured result against a target of 6 to 10°C. Every result comes from readings taken in the room itself.

Schools can take part on Track A, using changes that cost nothing, or Track B, with funding for measures such as external shading, cool roofs or planting. A separate Funding Challenge asks which solution gives the lowest cost for each degree of cooling per year.

The tool covers science, art and design, and design and technology. It includes 19 cooling measures, 10 case studies and six printable lessons, all linked to GreenComp and the SDGs. It is built for schools in the UK, the EU and Türkiye.

The Classroom Cooling Pulse

A year-long design challenge in which students audit one classroom, design ways to cool it, test them and report a measured result against a target of 6 to 10°C. Every result comes from readings taken in the room itself, with a free track and a funded track, a cost-per-degree calculator and printable lessons for science, art and design, and design and technology.

Built for schools in the UK, the EU and Türkiye. Aligned to GreenComp (JRC, 2022) and 10 SDG targets across SDGs 4, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 13, with the Education for Climate Coalition's 2026 priority of intergenerational fairness built in.

Before You Start A planning and evidence tool, not a building survey. It helps a class measure, design and test. It does not certify that a classroom is safe in extreme heat. The regional guidance on the Challenge tab was checked on 11 October 2026. Follow your school's own heat guidance and national weather warnings first, and get approval before changing the building.
Where The Content Comes From

Facts and figures carry the source named beside them and were checked on 11 October 2026. Regional guidance is a summary for orientation only; confirm the current position with the authority named before acting. The coloured ratings on each measure are planning guides for comparing options. Your own measured results are the evidence that counts.
