One Domino - Climate Action

Let’s take a closer look at SDG 13

The first domino gives small and medium businesses a clear, practical entry point into climate action.

It’s built for real-world use, not corporate spin. Inside, you’ll find the risks laid out plainly, the targets reframed for 2026, and a full set of actions you can take right now. It covers how to reduce emissions, manage rising costs, respond to climate shocks, and stay ahead of new ESG laws.

There are checklists, templates, strategy maps, and a case study that shows the path forward. No fluff. No greenwashing. Just a focused toolkit designed to help you adapt, stay competitive, and do the right thing. If you want a serious approach to sustainability without wasting time or money, this is where you start.

The Focus Week: How to Turn One SDG Into a Working Business Strategy

Most SMEs treat the Sustainable Development Goals as something to comply with, not something to run their business on. The result is a folder that gets opened once and never again.

The Focus Week takes a single 169to1® Climate Action unit and breaks it into five short, practical steps, one a day, so that by Friday you have moved from "I should probably look at this" to a real plan built around your own business. You do not need to clear your diary. You need about thirty focused minutes a day, and the willingness to act on what you find.

Here is the method, using our Climate Action (SDG 13) unit as the example. The same five-day shape works on any goal in the catalogue.

Monday - Understand

Start with why this goal matters to a business like yours, and what it is actually asking. Read the introduction and the plain-English targets. The aim today is not action, it is clarity: what is really at stake, and what "good" looks like.

Tuesday - Map

Hold the goal up against your own operation. Using the business impact map, work through your functions, energy, logistics, product, people, finance, and note where this goal touches each one. By the end of the day you are no longer reading about climate in the abstract. You are looking at your business.

Wednesday - Expose

Face the risks and the requirements. Work through the key risks, the compliance and ESG picture, and the handful of measures worth tracking. This is the day the exercise gets honest: where you are exposed, what you are missing, and what you could be measuring but are not.

Thursday - Act

Turn insight into movement. Pick from the practical quick wins and commit to a short low-carbon roadmap, a six or twelve month plan with visible steps. The rule for today is simple: choose actions you can actually start, not an outline you will abandon.

Friday - Commit

Close the week by taking stock. Run the reflection tool, set your baseline against the rubric, and choose the one thing you will carry into next month. A focus week only works if it produces a commitment, not just a completed list of aims.

What you will have by Friday

A clear view of how this goal affects your business, a short list of actions already underway, a simple roadmap for the months ahead, and a baseline you can measure progress against. And it can all start on Monday.

Focus to the Finish Line

Running a focus week alone is doable, but staying with it is the hard bit. Most owners complete the reading and stall on the follow-through, the roadmap that never gets revisited, the baseline nobody keeps up. That is normal, and it is exactly where working with us makes the difference. Our consultation helps you choose which goal and target matters most for your business and in what order, and our guided programme runs the weeks with you and keeps the strategy moving long after the first Friday.

Want to try the method first? Join our free Focus Week training. We will walk you through a full unit, help you complete a real slice on your own business in the room, and hand back the reins with the tools so you can run it yourself.
